Daniel Bliss Shaner was born 24 March 1830 in Bellmont, Muskingum County, Ohio  and died 19 August 1917 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio.  He is buried in the Bishopville Cemetery, Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio.  He was married 24 May 1851 to Nancy Tharp who was born 23 January 1833 in Muskingum County, Ohio and died 18 May 1897 in Bishopville, Athens County, Ohio.  Her Grandfather, Reuben Thorpe served in the Revolutionary War.  Daniel’s grandfather, Mattias Shaner was a Revolutionary War Patriot.  

Daniel B Shaner enlisted on 6 December 1861 for a three year period. He was 32 years of age and stood five feet nine inches in height-sandy complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair; his occupation at time of enlistment  was farmer. A Certificate of Disability for Discharge was issued to Private Daniel B. Shaner November 10 1862 at Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in Company K and Company E both of 63rd Regiment. Copies of his Muster Rolls show he was sent home on sick leave, failed to return on time and was charged with desertion- then all charges of desertion were cleared. Copies in possession of SUVCW member descendant.  The death Certificate shows name of his father as Adam Shaner and name of mother as Deborah Danes, listing birthplaces of both as “Pennsylvania”.

Daniel Bliss Shaner had at least nine (9) siblings, they were:

1: William Shaner born 18 August 1808 in Chandlerville,  Muskingum County, Ohio died 21 August 1840 in Athens, Athens County, Ohio married 21 February 1832 in Muskingum County, Ohio to Mary Nancy Tharp

2: Mathias Shaner born 13 April 1810 in Chandlerville, Muskingum County, Ohio died 20 Nov 1865 married 13 August 1833 in Muskingum County, Ohio  to Nancy Ann Freeman  

3: Ebenezer Shaner born 7 January 1812 in Chandlerville, Muskingum County, Ohio died 24 September 1892 Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio married 18 March 1834 in Muskingum County, Ohio  to Mary Ann Taylor. Military Service: Civil War Company A Ohio 63rd Regiment – Private.  Three of his sons also served in the Civil War.  

4: Mary Susan Shaner: born 9 December 1813 in Chandlerville, Muskingum County, Ohio died 14 April 1894 Athens County, Ohio married 12 June 1839 in Athens County, Ohio to Joseph Wilson Blackwood  

5: Martin Shaner: born 8 Jan 1815 in Chandlerville, Muskingum County, Ohio died 7 June 1857 in Kickapoo, Vernon County, Wisconsin married 3 September 1841 in Perry County, Ohio to Juliann Margaret Groves  

6: Rachel Shaner: born 1 February 1818 in Chandlerville,  Muskingum County, Ohio died 18 February 1903 in Bishopville, Athens County, Ohio married 23 December 1836 in Athens, Athens County, Ohio to Thomas Perry Eddy   

7: Harriet M Shaner: born 8 April 1821 in Chandlerville, Muskingum County, Ohio died 21 April 1900 I Palos Junction, Athens County, Ohio married 23 December 1841 in Athens, Athens County Ohio to George Washington McDaniel  

8: Sophia Martha Shaner: born 14 June 1823 in Chandlerville, Muskingum County Ohio died 30 November 1910 in Brenner, Doniphan County, Kansas married 13 June 1846 in Morgan County, Ohio to Job McDaniel II  

9: John Joseph Shaner: born 14 December 1827 in Chandlerville, Muskingum County, Ohio died 2 April 1908 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio married 1st on 19 May 1849 in Athens County, Ohio to Sarah Ann Love and 2nd aft 1875 in Morgan County, Ohio  to Drusilla Welch – Military Service: Civil War – Company C 167th Ohio Regiment – Private

3: Ira Elsworth Shaner Born 5 March 1861 n Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio died 6 May 1946 in Morgan County, Ohio and married 1st 17 March 1888 in Athens County, Ohio to  Lucy Jennette Peugh nd married 2nd st 13 October 1897 in Morgan County, Ohio to Sarah A. Daugherty   

4: Malvinia Jane Shaner born 8 April 1863 in Homer Township, Morgan, Ohio died 28 Aug 1935 married 29 September 1889 in Athens County, Ohio to Franklin Pierce Koons  

5: Florence Eldora Shaner born 11 November 1864 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio died 30 November 1927 in Athens County, Ohio  

6: Ida Alice Shaner born in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio 14 Nov 1866 died 13 Feb 1931 in Morgan County, Ohio  

7: Schuyler Colfax Shaner born 30 September 1868 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio died 25 April 1940 in Howenstine, Stark County, Ohio married 23 December 1893 in Morgan County, Ohio to Hulda Lavinia Smith  

8: Amamda Estella Shaner born 10 Nov 1870 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio died 25 July 1954 married to Nelson Selby Gardner  

9: Inez Eleanor Shaner born 18 Dec 1872 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio died 28 Oct 1958 in Marion, Marion County, Ohio married 21 January 1894 in Athens County, Ohio to George Washington Murphy  

10: Claremont H. Shaner born 14 December 1876 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio died 18 March 1877 in Homer Township, Morgan County, Ohio.
