The first Certificate of Appreciation in the history of the Department of the Columbia was awarded to the Washington State Library on May 20th 2022 by then-Department-Commander Loran Bures.  This award may be conferred by the Department Commander upon any entity who has through their actions, words and/or deeds significantly contributed to the furtherance of the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic within the Department of the Columbia.

The Department has also entrusted the Washington State Library with an original copy of the 1907 cumulative roster of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma for their rare book collection. This roster lists the names and military service of 752 Comrades. In Spring 2022, in recognition of our scholarship, the Washington State Library added links from their website at https://www.sos.wa.gov/library/genwebresources.aspx#military to our Department website.

Accepting the Certificate of Appreciation is State Librarian Sara Jones, and Special Collections Librarian Sean Lanksbury accepted the 1907 Custer Post Roster.
